During a subsequent press conference held on the second day of a paid conference, Dercon reiterated that Pakistan’s elite class is focused on maintaining the status quo, which he described as a zero-sum game. He argued that merely preserving the interests of the elite would not yield any solutions.

Ejaz explained that the value of the US dollar has decreased both in the interbank market and the open market. This development, coupled with recent measures to curb the illegal influx of dollars into the country, has stabilized the currency situation. Preventing the unauthorized outflow of dollars has proven to be an effective strategy in this regard.

One of the significant issues Zaidi pointed out was the lack of a robust agricultural income tax system in Sindh, one of Pakistan’s provinces. He posed a question to Shahbaz Sharif, a prominent political figure, about the status of agricultural income tax collection in Punjab, another major province in the country. This highlighted the need for comprehensive tax reforms and a more equitable tax collection system.
