The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken swift action by suspending the membership of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) due to government interference, as announced on Friday. The move follows the dismissal of SLC’s board by Sri Lanka’s ministry of sport and the subsequent appointment of an interim committee after the team’s disappointing performance in this year’s World Cup. Despite a legal intervention by Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal to halt the dismissal, the ICC Board determined that SLC is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member. The suspension underscores the ICC’s commitment to autonomous cricket management and the prevention of government interference.
