WhatsApp is rolling out a new WhatsApp Events hub designed to make event management simpler by giving users a single place to create, review, and manage their events. The feature is currently being tested with a limited number of Android beta users and adds a new option inside the app’s settings menu.
The update could make it easier for people to keep track of events without searching through individual chats and groups. Instead of finding an event where it was originally created or shared, users will be able to access their event-related information from one central location.
All Events in One Place
Until now, WhatsApp users generally had to open specific chats or groups to find events they had created or joined. This could become inconvenient when users participate in multiple conversations and have several upcoming activities.
The WhatsApp Events hub addresses this problem by bringing events together on a dedicated page. Users can see events they have created as well as invitations they have received from other people.
WhatsApp is also making the new section easier to discover by displaying a badge in the settings menu. This should help beta testers notice the feature once it becomes available on their accounts.
Create Events From Settings
Another useful part of the WhatsApp Events hub is the ability to create an event directly from the settings area. Users can open the hub and select the option to create a new event.
The event creation process allows users to enter an event name and an optional description. They can also specify the starting and ending times, add a location, and include a WhatsApp call link when needed.
Users can set reminders so they do not forget about upcoming activities. The default reminder is scheduled for one hour before the event, although the feature provides options for managing reminders.
WhatsApp is also adding additional event settings. Hosts can allow guests to bring another person and can add a cover photo to make the event page more visually distinctive.
Despite the new shortcut, users will still be able to create events directly from individual chats and groups.
Invitations for People Without WhatsApp
One of the more notable additions connected to the WhatsApp Events hub is support for people who do not have a WhatsApp account.
When a host creates an event, WhatsApp can generate a shareable invitation link. People who receive the link can view basic information about the event, including its name, date, and time.
Guests without WhatsApp can also respond to an invitation. They can enter their name and verify their phone number before confirming whether they will attend.
Some event details remain restricted until attendance is confirmed. According to the information about the feature, the full location and WhatsApp call link become available to guests after they confirm their attendance.
This could make WhatsApp events more practical for occasions involving people who use different messaging platforms or do not have WhatsApp installed.
Privacy and Event Information
Privacy remains an important part of the WhatsApp Events hub. WhatsApp says certain event information, including the event name, date, time, location, cover photo, and guest list, may be visible to guests and WhatsApp.
Hosts can view information about individual guests, including their names, responses, and phone numbers.
Confirmed attendees can also see the names and responses of other guests. However, phone numbers are more restricted and remain visible only when the person is already saved as a contact.
WhatsApp continues to protect personal messages and calls with end-to-end encryption. The event information system is therefore separate from the encryption protections used for private conversations and calls.
Gradual Beta Rollout
The WhatsApp Events hub is currently available only to some Android beta testers, specifically users running WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.36.5.
WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually, meaning that even users with the latest beta version may not immediately see the new option. Availability can depend on whether the feature has been enabled for a particular account.
The company has not yet announced a specific date for a wider release.
If testing goes smoothly, the new WhatsApp Events hub could become a useful addition for users who regularly organize meetings, celebrations, group activities, or online calls. By combining event creation, invitations, reminders, guest information, and management tools in one location, WhatsApp is making its event features easier to access while keeping existing event creation options available inside chats and groups.
