Khawaja Asif, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has alleged that the Faizabad sit-in protesters were the same individuals who had initiated a conspiracy against Nawaz Sharif. He made these assertions during a conversation on Geo News’ program “Capital Talk.”
Asif emphasized the need for concrete action to be taken regarding the verdict of the Faizabad sit-in case, stating that the issue should not be left unresolved. He pointed out that the video depicting the exchange of money serves as evidence of who brought the protesters and who ultimately withdrew them.
He contended that the purpose of the Faizabad sit-in was to obstruct Nawaz Sharif’s return, claiming that the entire drama unfolded, including the Panama Papers controversy and other events, with the goal of preventing Nawaz Sharif’s political resurgence.
Asif highlighted that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were imprisoned, leading to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) winning the elections. He attributed this outcome to the conspiracy against Nawaz Sharif, suggesting that it was orchestrated to ensure PTI’s electoral success.
Regarding the extension of the tenure of former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khawaja Asif explained that the party leadership had sensed the need to go along with the extension decision during their meeting in June. He stated that they had chosen to accommodate the extension, indicating their willingness to cooperate.
Khawaja Asif stressed the gravity of the Faizabad sit-in case, suggesting that the matter should not be treated lightly. He opined that it was essential to acknowledge past mistakes and wrongdoings and consider granting amnesty to individuals in the larger interest of the nation.
He further expressed his unwavering commitment to the party, considering his affiliation with PML-N as an integral part of his faith. In his view, politics is inconceivable without the party and its leadership.
