Meta and MoITT Partner to Advance AI and Digital Innovation in Pakistan

Meta and MoITT Partner

Meta, in partnership with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), has launched several initiatives to accelerate Pakistan’s journey toward artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. The collaboration was announced during the event Future in Focus: AI and Innovation, which brought together leaders from the government, industry, and academia to explore how AI can revolutionize Pakistan’s public and private sectors.

The partnership between Meta and MoITT highlights Pakistan’s growing commitment to building a strong digital economy under the government’s Digital Pakistan vision. Through this alliance, Meta introduced programs aimed at empowering the public sector, advancing AI education, and fostering innovation across the country.

Expanding AI Access with Urdu Integration

A major highlight of the event was the announcement that Meta AI will now support Urdu alongside English. This new feature allows users in Pakistan to interact with Meta AI in their native language, improving accessibility and inclusivity. By introducing Urdu support, Meta and MoITT have taken a significant step toward ensuring that technology reaches a broader audience and bridges the digital divide between urban and rural populations.

The move aligns with Pakistan’s digital inclusion goals and empowers millions of users to connect, learn, and express themselves more freely through AI technology.

Introducing the “Llama” Guide for Public Sector Innovation

Another major development unveiled at the event was the localized version of the guide “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama.” Created in collaboration with Deloitte, the guide demonstrates how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance public service delivery, data security, and administrative efficiency.

This initiative, supported by MoITT, showcases how AI can improve governance by automating workflows, supporting informed decision-making, and improving citizen services. Drawing from successful examples in the Asia Pacific region, including Pakistan’s own advancements in digital governance, the Llama guide offers valuable strategies for integrating AI responsibly and effectively in government systems.

Advancing AI Education Through Literacy Programs

Recognizing the importance of AI education, Meta and MoITT announced the launch of an AI Literacy Program in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), and atomcamp. This initiative will train 350 non-Computer Science faculty members across Pakistani universities in foundational AI concepts and applications.

The goal is to prepare educators to incorporate AI into various disciplines, ensuring that students from all academic backgrounds understand emerging technologies. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chair of NCEAC, emphasized that faculty training is essential for improving the quality of computing education in Pakistan. Similarly, atomcamp CEO Fizza Amjad noted that empowering teachers will create a ripple effect, helping thousands of students engage with AI and shaping Pakistan’s digital future.

Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025

To further strengthen Pakistan’s digital governance, Meta and MoITT introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program. This initiative aims to provide government institutions with access to Meta’s advanced technologies, digital tools, and best practices.

Through GDTX 2025, public sector leaders can learn from successful global case studies, exchange insights with private-sector experts, and apply modern strategies to improve service delivery. The program is designed to help Pakistan’s government embrace innovation and deliver transparent, efficient, and citizen-centric digital services.

Statements from Key Leaders

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted that the partnership between Meta and MoITT is a reflection of Pakistan’s commitment to inclusive technology under the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision. She praised the introduction of Urdu support for Meta AI as a major milestone in making technology accessible to all citizens.

Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar emphasized the importance of capacity building in computing education, while Fizza Amjad noted that AI literacy among educators would enhance academic and industry collaboration. Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia at Meta, stated that Meta’s collaboration with MoITT, HEC, and NCEAC will help Pakistan’s public sector and academia harness AI for growth and innovation.

Strengthening AI and Digital Innovation in Pakistan

The collaboration between Meta and MoITT is more than a technology partnership—it’s a roadmap for Pakistan’s digital progress. By localizing AI tools, introducing Urdu support, promoting literacy programs, and launching the GDTX 2025 initiative, both partners are laying the groundwork for a sustainable and inclusive digital future.

Meta’s efforts in Pakistan aim to build a strong AI ecosystem that supports government efficiency, empowers educators, and inspires innovation. This partnership reinforces the belief that technology, when used responsibly and inclusively, can transform societies and improve lives.

The alliance between Meta and MoITT represents a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey. Through their joint initiatives, Pakistan is making strides in artificial intelligence, public-sector modernization, and AI literacy. As Meta continues to support local innovation and inclusivity, the collaboration is expected to open new opportunities for learning, governance, and growth—shaping a smarter, more connected Pakistan for the future.
