The Pakistan government has decided to take political and religious parties into confidence regarding the ongoing nationwide cervical cancer vaccination campaign, ARY News reported Monday, citing official sources.
According to details, the Ministry of Health will soon begin outreach to political and religious leadership to secure their backing for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine campaign.
Officials revealed that efforts will focus on convincing leaders of the vaccine’s importance, encouraging them to issue public statements and share video messages on social media to raise awareness about its benefits. Prominent scholars from various schools of thought will also be engaged for their endorsement.
As part of the strategy, women parliamentarians have already been briefed on the vaccine to help strengthen public acceptance and support.
The initiative follows the launch of Pakistan’s first-ever national cervical cancer prevention campaign on September 15, which will run until September 27 across Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir.
Federal and provincial governments, along with Azad Kashmir authorities, have already been supplied with HPV vaccines and syringes to ensure smooth implementation of the drive.
The government hopes that with political and religious leaders’ backing, the campaign will achieve broader acceptance and protect women and girls from cervical cancer nationwide.
