Thousands of COVID-19 vaccine doses near expiry, FDI warns.

The Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI) has raised alarm over the imminent expiry of thousands of COVID-19 vaccine doses still held in government stock, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

According to officials, more than 5,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine—worth over Rs25 million—are due to expire next month. These doses are currently stored at the FDI’s central warehouse in Islamabad and represent the last remaining consignment of COVID-19 vaccines under federal government control.

In a formal communication to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the FDI urged immediate measures to prevent wastage. However, sources said no response has yet been received, and any decision on how to deal with the near-expiry stock is pending further instructions.

Officials added that with vaccination demand having dropped sharply, no recent consignments have been dispatched to the provinces.
