Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has made significant statements regarding his party’s political history and the current state of affairs in Pakistan. In a press conference held in Lahore, Bilawal Bhutto claimed that in 2013, the PPP was ousted from Punjab as part of a conspiracy orchestrated by General Pasha, Iftikhar Chaudhry, and a political party. He also pointed out that those who conspired against the PPP in Punjab eventually faced setbacks in the same province.
Bilawal Bhutto, while addressing the media, took aim at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) without directly naming them. He mentioned a saying that when someone is in trouble, they cling to others, but when they come out of it, they betray their allies. This statement seemed to allude to political alliances and opportunism among certain political parties in Pakistan.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Bilawal Bhutto demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announce the election schedule promptly. He pointed out that a complaint about not receiving level playing fields in the elections has been lodged with a political party, and PPP has given Asif Zardari the authority to address concerns and reservations related to it.
Bilawal Bhutto also emphasized that the PPP does not consider itself limited to any specific province; rather, it sees itself as a party with national significance. He expressed regret that certain parties attempt to stigmatize PPP as being confined to one province when, in fact, PPP has its origins in Punjab.
During the press conference, Bilawal Bhutto highlighted that the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) discussed a range of issues, including inflation, unemployment, economic challenges, political instability, and legal matters. The PPP’s CEC called for the immediate announcement of the election schedule in line with constitutional requirements.
Bilawal Bhutto also called for providing financial assistance to areas affected by floods and expressed concern over rising electricity bills, which have caused distress among the public. He mentioned that PPP has shown solidarity with the victims of the Jaranwala incident, referring to a tragic event that took place recently.
