WhatsApp is rolling out a new voicemail-style feature for select Android beta users (version 2.25.23.21), designed to make follow-ups on missed calls faster and more convenient.
Feature Overview
When a WhatsApp voice call goes unanswered, users will now see three options on their screen: call again, cancel, and record voice message. The new shortcut allows users to instantly record and send a voice message directly from the call screen.
This functionality is also integrated into the recipient’s chat window, where the voice message will appear alongside the missed call notification. By replicating the familiar voicemail concept within WhatsApp’s chat interface, the feature ensures quick communication without requiring extra steps or screen changes.
Availability
Currently, the voicemail-style feature is limited to Android beta testers and has not yet been rolled out globally. WhatsApp has not announced an official release date, but based on previous update patterns, a broader rollout may follow after successful beta testing.
WhatsApp’s Push for Convenience
The messaging platform continues to experiment with features that enhance user experience. Earlier, WhatsApp introduced the ability to undo an accidentally deleted message.
Previously, when users tapped “Delete for Me”, the message disappeared only from their chat while still visible to the receiver. The app now briefly displays an “Undo” option that allows users to reverse the action, a function that many had long requested.
Together, these updates reflect WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to make communication more seamless and user-friendly.
