Veteran actor Shamoon Abbasi has shared deeply personal reflections on his battle with depression, revealing that a one-sided love and emotional isolation pushed him into a period of profound inner turmoil.
Speaking candidly on Dunya News’ show Mazaq Raat, Abbasi admitted to struggling with relationships throughout his life. “I have always failed to maintain relationships, and I believe there must have been some shortcomings on my part as well,” he acknowledged.
He explained that in his pursuit of professional success, he became so consumed with work that his personal relationships faded. While those close to him moved on with their lives, he found himself alone and self-critical. “When all of this happened, I started seeing myself as a failure,” he confessed.
Abbasi reflected on the painful realization that emotional growth and understanding of relationships only come through experience, not theory. “I thought life would improve with a little struggle, but it didn’t. My close relationships left me, and I was completely alone,” he said.
The actor recalled the emotional breakdown he experienced when those bonds were severed, describing it as a period that “broke him from within.” The resulting heartbreak and loneliness led him into a deep depression, severely affecting his personality and day-to-day functioning.
“It affected my abilities, made me withdrawn, and I became so quiet and serious that people around me were scared — some even thought I was a terrorist,” he said, pointing out the extreme shift in how others perceived him during that dark time.
Shamoon Abbasi’s honesty about his mental health struggles has struck a chord with fans, who have lauded his bravery in speaking openly about topics often considered taboo in the entertainment industry.
