US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has arrived in Moscow, where he was welcomed at the airport by Russia’s investment envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, according to a source involved in organizing the visit, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
Witkoff’s visit comes as US President Donald Trump issued a warning that sanctions would be imposed on Russia if it does not agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by Friday. Trump had earlier indicated that Witkoff might be heading to Moscow this week.
A separate source familiar with the matter confirmed on Tuesday that Witkoff was scheduled to hold talks with Russian leadership on Wednesday.
