Liam Dawson returns to England test squad after 8 years for fourth test against India.

England’s left-arm spinner Liam Dawson has been named in the playing XI for the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, marking his return to Test cricket after eight years. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squad on Monday.

Dawson, 35, replaces the injured Shoaib Bashir, who suffered a finger fracture during the third Test at Lord’s—a match England won by 22 runs to lead the series 2-1. This victory has put them just one win away from sealing their first five-match Test series triumph since 2018.

The Hampshire all-rounder last featured in a Test match in July 2017, earning his third cap. Though he was part of England’s victorious 2019 World Cup squad, Dawson did not play in the tournament and was recently seen in action during the T20I series against the West Indies in June.

The rest of the squad remains unchanged from the previous Test.

England’s XI for 4th Test vs India:

  • Zak Crawley
  • Ben Duckett
  • Ollie Pope
  • Joe Root
  • Harry Brook
  • Ben Stokes (captain)
  • Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper)
  • Liam Dawson
  • Chris Woakes
  • Brydon Carse
  • Jofra Archer

The fourth Test begins on Wednesday at Old Trafford, Manchester.
