Renowned Pakistani actress Meera, whose real name is Syeda Irtiza Rubab, has made a heartfelt appeal to the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, urging a fair review of her UK visa application. Meera wishes to travel to London to be with her sister, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
In her plea, Meera said: “I urge the UK authorities to evaluate my case on its merits. A miscommunication previously led to my visa denial. My residence is in London, and my family lives there. My sister is battling cancer, and I must visit her. Please issue me a visa based on merit.”
The actress submitted her visa application earlier this week. She and her family hope that her current situation will be viewed with compassion, especially given her long-standing ties to the UK, where most of her family resides.
Meera faced a 10-year entry ban over a decade ago after a miscommunication during an English-language interview led to a misunderstanding. Her family claims that both she and the visa officer struggled to understand each other during the conversation, resulting in restrictions on her travel.
In January, Meera’s mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, issued a public appeal to the UK High Commission, requesting a visa for her daughter to reunite with family and pursue professional engagements.
After the initial ban was lifted, a subsequent visa application submitted by a travel agent was rejected again due to “false representation,” stemming from inaccurate information.
Despite being a US Green Card holder and a regular visitor to the United States, Meera has remained unable to travel to the UK because of these complications. Her family includes a sister in Germany, another who is a solicitor in London, and her mother, who largely resides in a London property reportedly purchased with Meera’s earnings.
Her mother emphasized the urgency of the matter, saying, “The ban is now over, and Meera should be allowed into the UK. She has several film projects lined up there that are currently on hold due to her absence. These projects can only resume once she is present.”
