Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stated unequivocally that the sons of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan—Sulaiman and Kasim—are not above the law and will face consequences if they break it. Speaking to Geo News, Kundi emphasized that Pakistani law applies equally to all, regardless of political affiliation or background.
Kundi’s remarks came in response to PTI’s recent protests against Imran Khan’s continued incarceration and reports that his sons may actively join the party’s campaign demanding the former prime minister’s release. While acknowledging that peaceful protests are a democratic right of every citizen, he stressed that crossing legal boundaries would not be tolerated.
“PTI founder’s children are not untouchable, Kundi asserted, warning that if Sulaiman and Kasim attempt to take the law into their own hands or incite unrest, legal action will be taken against them like any other individual.
Addressing the issue of dual nationality, the governor clarified that if the PTI founder’s sons are not Pakistani citizens, then the situation may fall under the jurisdiction of the British High Commission. However, he reiterated that foreign nationals present in Pakistan are subject to Pakistani laws, just as Pakistanis living in the UK must adhere to British laws.
No one is exempt from the law of the land, Kundi said firmly. Whether they are sons of a former prime minister or British citizens, if they are in Pakistan, they will be held accountable under our laws.
The governor also took aim at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, accusing it of deliberately targeting workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during political events. He condemned what he called a campaign of political victimization and warned that the PTI would face the consequences of its own actions.
“PTI will reap what it sows,” he declared, alluding to the party’s own history of governance and protests. He criticized the party’s leadership for attempting to create chaos while claiming to stand for democracy and justice.
Faisal Karim Kundi reiterated his stance that the law should apply uniformly, regardless of a person’s social status or political lineage. He urged PTI leadership to discourage any illegal activity and refrain from encouraging actions that might destabilize the country.
The debate comes amid ongoing political tension in Pakistan, where PTI’s founder Imran Khan remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The 71-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has been behind bars since August 2023, facing a series of cases ranging from corruption to terrorism. His arrest followed his ousting from power in April 2022 through a no-confidence vote led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and supported by a coalition of opposition parties.
Recently, PTI leaders announced that Imran Khan’s sons would join the party’s campaign for their father’s release, triggering speculation and legal warnings from the current government. The federal authorities have indicated that they will arrest Sulaiman and Kasim if they violate any laws during the protest activities.
Kundi’s remarks appear to be a clear message to the PTI and its supporters: that no individual or family, no matter how influential, is above the law. As the political climate in Pakistan remains tense, all eyes are on the upcoming moves by PTI, the government’s response, and whether Imran Khan’s sons will indeed join the political front lines.
