BTS member Suga was officially discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service on Saturday, June 21, becoming the seventh and final member of the world-renowned K-pop group to complete national duty. His release marks a significant milestone for BTS fans, with anticipation building for the group’s long-awaited reunion.
Suga served as a social service agent, an alternative form of military duty, and completed his service quietly, without a public event due to concerns over crowd control. According to Big Hit Music, the band’s management under HYBE, Suga had already used up his remaining leave days and was effectively discharged on June 18.
“We confirm that Suga effectively completed his alternative service on June 18 by using his remaining leave. His official discharge date is June 21,” Big Hit stated.
Reflecting on the Past
Shortly after his discharge, Suga addressed fans via Weverse, BTS’s fan communication platform, expressing remorse over a past incident. He apologized for the drunk driving case from last year, where he was fined 15 million won (approx. $11,500) after being caught riding an electric scooter under the influence.
“I’m sorry for the disappointment and concern caused by what happened last year,” he wrote, also extending his apologies to his bandmates.
Looking Ahead: A Historic Comeback Tour
With all seven BTS members—Jin, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jungkook, and now Suga—having fulfilled their military obligations, speculation is intensifying about the group’s next move. According to a report from NH Securities, BTS is expected to embark on their largest-ever world tour in 2026, aligning with the band’s official return to full group activities.
HYBE, the entertainment conglomerate managing BTS, remains under close scrutiny from investors and analysts, with the group’s future plans seen as a key driver of its business outlook.
For ARMY—the global fanbase of BTS—the countdown to a long-awaited comeback has officially begun.
