A new single-player action-adventure game set in the iconic Dungeons & Dragons universe is officially in development, with industry veteran Stig Asmussen at the helm through his newly founded studio, Giant Skull.
Asmussen, known for directing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Fallen Order, as well as God of War III, expressed excitement about the project:
“Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity,” he said.
“Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat, and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”
The project is being developed for both PC and consoles, according to early reports, and marks a major move by Wizards of the Coast following the end of their partnership with Baldur’s Gate 3 developer, Larian Studios.
Wizards of the Coast referred to this collaboration as a “definitive moment” in the gaming journey of both companies.
Reacting to the deal, John Hight, head of digital gaming at Wizards, shared his enthusiasm:
“I had the pleasure of witnessing Stig’s creative vision back when we worked together on God of War I. Worldbuilding and storytelling are in our DNA, and this collaboration reflects our commitment to digital play under our ‘Playing to Win’ strategy.”
The game remains untitled for now, but anticipation is already building given the pedigree of the developers involved and the legacy of the Dungeons & Dragons brand. Further details about the game’s narrative and gameplay mechanics are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
