Harry brook withdraws from IPL 2025, faces potential ban.

England batsman Harry Brook has pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the second consecutive year, a decision that could result in a two-year ban from future editions of the tournament.

Brook, who was signed by Delhi Capitals in December 2023, had previously withdrawn from last year’s IPL following the death of his grandmother. On Sunday, the 26-year-old announced that he would skip the 2025 season as well to focus on England’s upcoming series.

Potential IPL Ban

Under IPL regulations, Brook’s decision to withdraw before the start of the season could lead to a two-year suspension from the league and its auction.

“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL,” Brook stated on social media.

“I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right. Playing for my country remains my priority and focus. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters.”

Focus on England and Future Leadership Role

Brook was England’s vice-captain during their disappointing Champions Trophy campaign, where they suffered an early exit after losing all three group-stage matches. With Jos Buttler stepping down as captain, Brook is among the leading contenders to take over the role.

England’s upcoming schedule includes a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May, followed by three ODIs and three T20s against the West Indies.

“With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for English cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series,” Brook said.

The IPL 2025 season is set to run from March 22 to May 25.
