In response to the recent protests organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the capital, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar stated on Sunday that those responsible for the “November 24 violence” would face legal consequences.
During a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar revealed that PTI leader Murad Saeed had sought refuge in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s House after directing unruly PTI supporters toward D-Chowk with the intent to disrupt the capital.
Accompanied by Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, and Secretary of the Interior, Khurram Ali Agha, the minister accused PTI of using propaganda to cover up their failure to gather a significant crowd for the protests. He further claimed that secret reports had revealed PTI’s plans to escalate their protest into violence.
Tarar also raised concerns about the presence of weapons among protestors, questioning the legitimacy of any peaceful protest where such weapons are involved. Among the protestors, he noted, were 37 Afghan nationals linked to PTI.
The Interior Secretary acknowledged the careful role played by security institutions in managing the violent protests, emphasizing their efforts to maintain order amid the unrest. Additionally, Tarar pointed out that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rejected PTI’s calls for rebellion, as they did not support the party’s chaotic political approach.
