Paris Saint-Germain’s shaky start in the Champions League continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, leaving coach Luis Enrique “worried” about the team’s future in the competition.
PSV took the lead through Noa Lang just after the half-hour mark, but PSG’s Achraf Hakimi equalized early in the second half. Despite dominating with 26 attempts on goal to PSV’s eight, PSG struggled to convert chances, a recurring issue in European competitions.
“It’s hard to accept the result after how we played, but football can be unfair,” said Luis Enrique. “We were better than PSV and deserved to win.”
In a frustrating end, PSG had a penalty decision overturned in injury time, summing up their night. The French side has scored only twice in their last five Champions League matches, extending their struggles from last season’s semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
With just four points from three games in the new-look Champions League format, PSG faces tough upcoming fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, leaving Luis Enrique concerned: “It’s the toughest group, and yes, I’m worried.”
PSV coach Peter Bosz praised his team for earning a point, despite still seeking their first win in the competition.
