The Punjab Home Department has established a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate the dissemination of fake news concerning the harassment of a female student from a private college. SSP Investigation Muhammad Naveed will lead the six-member JIT, which comprises three police officers and three representatives from intelligence agencies.
The JIT will focus on a case registered at the Defence A police station, aiming to identify the primary culprits behind the incitement of violence against the state. The investigation will also seek to trace those responsible for dishonoring and maligning the female student on social media.
SSP Muhammad Naveed convened the first session of the JIT today. Earlier, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum directed the formation of a team led by the FIA DG to probe the issue. CJ Neelum also ordered a full bench to hear the case concerning fake news and harassment incidents within educational institutions.
