Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has officially retired from professional cricket after an illustrious 21-year career. The 40-year-old announced his decision following a groin injury that cut short his participation in the Caribbean Premier League.
Bravo, the leading wicket-taker in professional Twenty20 cricket with 631 wickets across T20 Internationals and franchise tournaments, shared his retirement on Instagram, stating, “My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain and strain. I can’t put myself in a position where I might let down my teammates, my fans, or the teams I represent. So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport.”
Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed his appointment as a team mentor through a social media post on Friday. Bravo’s impressive career includes 40 Tests, 164 One-Day Internationals, and 91 T20 matches for the West Indies, contributing to their T20 World Cup victory in 2016. Since retiring from international cricket in 2021, he has ventured into coaching, previously serving as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings and the Afghanistan national team.
