Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has broadened the reach of the free Wi-Fi service across the province. According to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the service has been extended to 230 locations in Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura.
Lahore now boasts 200 free Wi-Fi points, while Kasur has 10, Sheikhupura 15, and Nankana Sahib 5. Over the past three months, around 7.7 million users have consumed 111 TB of data through the service.
The free internet aims to assist citizens in education, business, and social communication, positioning Punjab as a digital province. The initiative initially started as a pilot project in Lahore with 50 locations.
The PML-N government first introduced free Wi-Fi in 2013, but it was discontinued by the PTI government. The service has now been revived under the provincial technology board, PITB.
