Pakistan’s shooters, Kishmala Talat and Gulfam Joseph, faced a challenging start at the Paris Olympics 2024. Gulfam Joseph finished 22nd out of 33 shooters in the men’s 10-meter air pistol competition, scoring 571 out of 600 points and failing to qualify for the final round.
Kishmala Talat also struggled in the women’s 10-meter air pistol contest, finishing 32nd out of 44 shooters with a total score of 567 points. Her scores in the six series were 93, 97, 94, 93, 95, and 95, respectively. Both athletes will now focus on the mixed team shooting event scheduled for July 29.
Pakistan’s delegation at the Paris Olympics comprises seven athletes and 11 officials. Alongside Kishmala and Gulfam, the team includes javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, sprinter Faiqa Riaz, and swimmers Mohammad Ahmed Durrani and Jehanara Nabi.
The Pakistani athletes and officials were warmly received by the Pakistan Embassy in Paris on Thursday. The reception, attended by IPC Minister Rana Sanaullah, provided an opportunity to boost the morale of the athletes. Usman Khan, who had to withdraw from the ongoing event due to technical issues related to his residence’s proximity to the Olympic enclosure, also attended the event.
Despite the initial setbacks, the Pakistani athletes remain determined to excel in their respective events, drawing inspiration and support from their compatriots and officials present in Paris.
