Australia has named its 14-man squad for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, with the notable return of seamer Michael Neser. The 33-year-old, known for his consistent performances, was preferred over Lance Morris, who sustained a side strain in a recent one-day clash against West Indies.
While Neser earned a spot in the squad, the frontline fast bowlers for Australia remain unchanged, with Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood leading the pace attack.
Chief selector George Bailey expressed confidence in Neser, stating, “It’s great to see Michael Neser get another opportunity in the squad following his ever-consistent performances over a long period of time and the conditions we expect.”
Australia’s Test squad for the series commencing on February 29 in Wellington also features the usual faces, including Steve Smith, who is set to open with Usman Khawaja following David Warner’s retirement. Cameron Green is expected to retain his position at number four, with Matthew Renshaw serving as the backup batter. Nathan Lyon remains the sole specialist spinner in the squad.
The selectors anticipate a challenging tour against a formidable New Zealand side that has displayed consistent performances at home.
