Supreme Court Seeks Report on Police Inspection at PTI Chairman’s Residence

In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has demanded an immediate report from the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police regarding the raid conducted at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Barrister Gohar Khan.

Following a hiatus, the Supreme Court resumed the hearing of the intra-party election case within the PTI. Chief Justice remarked that they had sent for the IG as part of the proceedings. Reacting to this development, PTI’s lawyer, Ali Zafar, expressed approval, stating that it was a positive step. The Chief Justice inquired whether the IG Islamabad was present in the court, to which Ali Zafar responded that the IG had come earlier, but he might be outside and would return later.

Later, the Chief Justice questioned the IG about the reason behind the police visit to Barrister Gohar’s house. The IG responded, explaining that the police received information about some advertising suspects being present there. However, upon realizing that it was Barrister Gohar’s residence, the police withdrew.

Chief Justice, expressing concern, instructed the IG to submit a written report, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter and urging the IG to visit Barrister Gohar’s house personally.

It’s noteworthy that during the court proceedings, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan had interrupted Ali Zafar, the lawyer, pointing out that four police vans had arrived at his house, subjecting his son and nephew to violence, and confiscating computers and documents.

The Chief Justice also addressed the Additional Attorney General, stating that such incidents should not happen. He urged the authorities to resolve the matter promptly. This incident underscores the delicate balance between law enforcement activities and political sensitivities, emphasizing the need for transparent investigations and adherence to due process in such situations.
