In a further escalation of the Kremlin’s crackdown on dissent, Ksenia Fadeyeva, a regional legislator associated with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, has been sentenced to nine years in prison. Convicted on charges of organizing an extremist group, Fadeyeva’s lawyers plan to appeal, arguing she had severed ties with Navalny’s organization before it was labeled extremist in 2021. Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, deems Fadeyeva “honest and brave,” predicting consequences for those fabricating the case. This follows Navalny’s recent transfer to a remote Arctic prison, known for harsh conditions. The relentless assault on Navalny’s associates underscores the Kremlin’s determination to stifle dissent and isolate opposition figures.
