The process of scrutiny and approval of nomination papers for the upcoming general elections in 2024 continued today, featuring prominent political figures submitting their candidacy. Leaders such as Nawaz Sharif from PML-N, Imran Khan from PTI, Liaquat Khosa from PTI, Shahbaz Sharif from PML-N, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, and independent candidate Chaudhry Nasir Ali Khan had their nomination papers accepted.
In Lahore, the scrutiny for PTI’s Liaquat Khosa from NA-127 and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Liaqat Baloch from NA-128 was completed today. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s nomination papers from NA-194 in Larkana were accepted, while ANP’s Asfandyar Wali Khan’s papers from NA-25 were also approved.
PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal’s papers from NA-33 Nowshera were accepted, as were the nominations of PML-N’s Qamar ul Islam Raja from NA-53, Daniyal Chaudhry from NA-56, Naseer Butt from NA-57, and Chaudhry Adnan from NA-57.
MQM leaders Aminul Haq, Javed Hanif, Sheikh Salahuddin, and Shabir Ahmed Qaimkhani had their papers accepted from NA-246, NA-233, NA-248, and NA-233, respectively. Salim Mandviwala and Iktiar Baig’s nominations from NA-241, JI’s Munawar Zafar Khan from NA-247, and Abdul Rashid’s from NA-240 were also accepted.
In Rawalpindi, PML-N leaders Kamar ul Islam Raja, Naseer Mahmood, Daniyal Chaudhry, and Chaudhry Adnan had their papers accepted for PA-10, PA-53, PA-17, and PA-57, respectively.
Sheikh Rashid’s nephew, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, had his papers accepted from PA-19, and in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz, Shahbaz Sharif, and Hamza Shahbaz’s papers for PA-165, PA-158, and PA-164 were scrutinized and accepted.
Election Commission further checked the papers of Tahir Orangzaib, Maryam Orangzaib, Zehra Fatima, Khwaja Asif’s wife Musarrat Asif, and Shiza Fatima.
PPP’s Hina Rabbani Khar, Samina Khawar Hayat, and Shahida Jabeen had their papers scrutinized for minority and general seats, along with minority candidates like Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Tariq Masih Gill, and Iden Sahotra.
The scrutiny of nomination papers for different constituencies and categories will continue until December 30. This marks a crucial step in the lead-up to the general elections, setting the stage for a diverse array of candidates vying for electoral success.
