Khursheed Shah, a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), emphasized the need for unity in the face of what he described as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) strategic placement of its members in the caretaker government. He acknowledged that the PPP had suffered significant losses in Punjab due to the PML-N’s influence but underscored the importance of collaboration and joint efforts.
Shah highlighted the PPP’s commitment to open dialogue, stating that the party openly discusses its stance. He reaffirmed that PPP’s prime ministerial candidate, Bilawal Bhutto, will lead the way in the upcoming elections. Despite the challenges posed by the PML-N in Punjab, Shah asserted the necessity of working together to address issues.
The PPP leader emphasized that there are no major ideological differences with the PML-N, and where challenges arise, the PPP has consistently stood firm. He stressed the need for consensus and joint decision-making for the betterment of the country.
Regarding the PML-N’s influence in the caretaker government, Shah clarified that only Sardar Abrar Riaz, a member of PPP, was part of the caretaker setup. He countered the notion that PPP held a significant position in the caretaker government, asserting that no ticket holder of the PPP was included in the caretaker administration.
Shah expressed concern over attempts to manipulate the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections. He stated that it is the responsibility of the judiciary to ensure transparent elections and urged political parties to trust the legal system in managing electoral affairs.
Addressing the potential formation of the Pakistan Democratic Movement 2 (PDM-2), Shah stated that such a coalition has not materialized yet. He called for letting the elections take place and urged parties to accept the results. Shah acknowledged the uncertainty of the political landscape, stating that any party, including the PPP, might find itself in the government or opposition after the Khursheed Shah emphasized the unpredictable nature of politics and the need for collaborative decision-making. The statement suggests a pragmatic approach by the PPP leadership in navigating the evolving political scenario.
