Election Commission Delays Hearing on Constituency Delimitation Protests Until After General Elections

The Election Commission has made a decision to postpone hearings on objections related to constituency delimitation until after the upcoming general elections. According to the Election Commission, the consideration of constituency-related objections will take place following the conclusion of the general elections.

The Election Commission has stated that holding hearings on these requests at this time could negatively impact the electoral process. The decision comes amidst objections raised by various political parties, including the Muslim League, against the Election Commission’s new constituency delimitation.

In recent days, the Supreme Court had closed all doors for delaying the forthcoming general elections, setting a clear stance that objections regarding constituency delimitation cannot be entertained after the release of the election schedule.

It is noteworthy that the Balochistan High Court had earlier modified the constituency delimitation done by the Election Commission. However, the Supreme Court declared the decision of the Balochistan High Court null and void, accepting the Election Commission’s appeal.

The Election Commission had previously announced that the general elections would be held on February 8, 2024, with the schedule already released, and nomination papers are currently being filed.
