Wrestling federation of India’s suspension may be lifted If safeguards for women wrestlers ensured.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), currently suspended by the United World Wrestling (UWW), may need to implement safeguards for women wrestlers to have the suspension lifted, according to the global governing body. The UWW had suspended the WFI in August after it failed to hold timely elections and amid sexual harassment allegations against the then-president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The recent election victory of a candidate backed by Singh’s faction has led to protests, including the resignation of top woman wrestler Sakshi Malik and the return of an award by male wrestler Bajrang Punia. The UWW is assessing the situation before considering lifting the suspension.
