In a sharp response to the reports from leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Senator Waqar Mehdi has declared that the wave of bloodshed orchestrated by the MQM in Karachi has subsided, and the people of Karachi will no longer be swayed by the MQM’s tactics.
Mehdi asserted that despite being actively involved in various governments over the past 40 years, the MQM has failed to serve the people of Karachi. He criticized the MQM’s track record, emphasizing that Karachi’s residents have not benefited from their participation in different administrations.
The PPP senator went on to suggest that, to avoid the embarrassment of defeat, the MQM might opt for fleeing the upcoming general elections. Using a metaphor, he remarked that they might cut the kite string to escape the inevitable.
Addressing a gathering in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi, MQM leaders were accused of corruption spanning 15 years by Mehdi. He claimed that the ruling authorities in Sindh have been involved in corruption for a decade and a half, turning security concerns into a grim reality.
Mehdi highlighted that for 15 years, those in power have held a tight grip on the institutions, authorities, and resources in Sindh, yet they have failed to contribute positively to the city. He expressed concern that now, with the influx of corrupt funds, there are preparations underway to purchase elections through ill-gotten gains.
As the political dynamics continue to shift in Karachi, this statement from a prominent PPP leader reflects the ongoing rivalry and competition for influence in one of Pakistan’s most significant cities.
