Taiwan once again raised concerns as it reported Chinese warplanes and warships encircling the island, including aircraft breaching the sensitive median line of the Taiwan Strait. With Taiwan’s presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for January 13, Beijing continues its military maneuvers, intensifying tensions between the two sides. Taiwan’s defense ministry identified J-10 and J-16 fighters, along with ship-borne helicopters, engaging in operations near central Taiwan and the island’s southwest. Eleven of these aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line, collaborating with Chinese warships for “joint combat readiness patrols.” The escalating military activities coincide with a crucial election period where relations with China remain a pivotal issue for the democratically governed Taiwan.
