Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, revealed on Monday that defender Dan Burn is expected to be sidelined for “a couple of months” due to a spinal injury. Speaking in Germany ahead of Newcastle’s crucial Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, Howe confirmed the extent of the injury, describing it as “long-term.”
Howe elaborated, stating, “Dan will be out for some time, I think.” He cautioned that the estimated two-month recovery period was speculative, noting that Burn had sustained the injury when landing on his spine, particularly the base of his spine.
Losing Burn to injury is a significant setback for the team, as he has been a crucial player for various positions, including his ability to play as a center-back. The injury was incurred during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal.
Newcastle is set to face Borussia Dortmund in a crucial match, with the English side currently occupying the third position in the group, behind second-placed Dortmund, and both teams tied on points. In the previous fixture in England, Newcastle suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dortmund, with a first-half goal by midfielder Felix Nmecha sealing the victory for the German team.
