The International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted approval for the inclusion of Angelo Mathews in Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad, replacing the injured fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana. Pathirana had been sidelined due to a shoulder injury sustained during a match against Pakistan on October 10, leading to his exclusion from the tournament.
Angelo Mathews, a former captain and a seasoned all-rounder, brings a wealth of experience with 221 One Day Internationals (ODIs) to his name. His most recent ODI appearance was against Afghanistan in June.
Sri Lanka, coming off a recent five-wicket victory over the Netherlands with 10 balls to spare at the World Cup in India, is gearing up for their next challenge against England, scheduled for Thursday.
