According to sources, there is a possibility of a significant increase in gas prices in Islamabad, with a proposal to raise rates by up to 193% in the upcoming month. This proposal was presented during an economic committee meeting.
As per the summary from the Petroleum Division, the proposal suggests a 193% increase in gas tariffs and a 172% price hike for domestic consumers. Additionally, for other categories, gas prices are expected to rise by approximately 193%, with fixed monthly charges for protected consumers increasing from 10 to 400 rupees.
The proposal recommends a gas tariff of 950 rupees for industrial consumers, 2050 rupees for export industries, 1400 rupees for non-export industries, 2600 rupees for non-industrial sectors, and 2595 rupees per MMBTU for CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) sectors.
It has been suggested that the gas tariff for the CNG sector should be 4400 rupees per MMBTU, while maintaining gas prices for power plants and furnaces. The increase in electricity prices may take effect from October 1st.
