The Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors have officially been introduced, marking a new step in the company’s effort to improve gaming and multitasking performance. Announced by Intel, the new lineup is designed to deliver faster gaming speeds and stronger multi-threaded performance compared with the previous generation.
According to Intel, the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors can deliver up to 15 percent higher average gaming performance compared with the earlier Core Ultra 2 series chips. The new processors arrive at a time when building or upgrading a gaming PC has become increasingly expensive due to rising prices of components like RAM, graphics cards, and storage devices.
By introducing these processors at relatively competitive prices, Intel hopes to provide gamers and PC enthusiasts with an affordable upgrade path.
Two New CPUs in the Lineup
The Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors lineup currently includes two main models: the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus.
The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus is priced at around $200, making it a mid-range option for gamers looking for better performance without spending too much. Meanwhile, the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus is priced at approximately $300 and targets users who need more power for demanding workloads.
Both models build upon earlier processors such as the Core Ultra 245K and 265K. However, the Plus versions feature an important improvement: additional efficiency cores.
The Core Ultra 5 250K Plus uses a 6 performance core and 12 efficiency core configuration. In comparison, the earlier model had only 8 efficiency cores. The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus offers an even stronger setup with 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores.
These improvements help the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors handle more tasks simultaneously while maintaining strong gaming performance.
Better Gaming and Multi-Thread Performance
Gaming remains a major focus for Intel’s new processor lineup. According to the company, the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors provide noticeable improvements in modern games thanks to their increased core counts and improved internal architecture.
The additional efficiency cores help the processors manage background tasks while leaving performance cores free to handle gaming workloads. This results in smoother frame rates and better system responsiveness.
Intel also highlighted strong multi-thread performance improvements. In certain workloads related to content creation, such as rendering in Blender or benchmarking in Cinebench, the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus reportedly delivers significantly higher performance.
In fact, Intel claims that the processor can deliver up to twice the multi-threaded performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X in specific tests. While real-world performance may vary, these figures demonstrate Intel’s focus on improving productivity alongside gaming.
Faster Memory and Chip Communication
Another key upgrade in the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors involves improvements to internal chip communication. Intel has increased the speed of the memory interconnect by approximately 900 MHz.
This change helps reduce latency, allowing data to move more quickly between different parts of the processor. Lower latency can improve responsiveness in both games and demanding applications.
Memory support has also been upgraded. While earlier processors supported DDR5 memory speeds of up to 6400 MT/s, the new chips support DDR5 speeds up to 7200 MT/s.
With the Boost BIOS profile enabled, systems using the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors can even reach speeds of 8000 MT/s. Faster memory can provide noticeable improvements in certain workloads, especially in gaming and content creation.
New Game Optimization Software
Alongside the hardware announcement, Intel introduced a new software tool designed to improve gaming performance.
The Binary Optimization Tool analyzes game code and helps optimize it for Intel processors. This approach works in a similar way to graphics card driver updates that improve performance in specific games.
Over time, Intel plans to release updates that add optimization profiles for more games. This means the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors could continue receiving performance improvements through software updates.
Compatibility and Upgrade Path
One advantage of the new processors is that they remain compatible with existing motherboards that use Intel’s 800 series chipset. This compatibility allows users to upgrade their CPUs without replacing their entire system.
Intel also revealed that new motherboards are currently in development. These upcoming boards will support advanced 4 Rank CUDIMM memory modules with capacities of up to 128GB per module.
Using two of these modules would allow a PC to reach a total of 256GB of RAM. While most gamers will not need that much memory, the capability highlights the flexibility offered by systems built around the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors.
Release Date and Availability
Intel confirmed that the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and Core Ultra 7 270K Plus will become available starting March 26. Pre-built desktop PCs using these processors are expected to launch around the same time.
The company has already provided review samples to media outlets, meaning early performance reviews will likely appear shortly before the official release date.
Intel also hinted that additional models may join the lineup in the future, expanding the Intel Core Ultra 200S Plus processors family.
