U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that no deal would be struck with Iran unless it offered “unconditional surrender,” a week after launching military action alongside Israel against Tehran.
In a post on social media, Trump said that once Iran surrendered and a “great and acceptable” leadership was selected, the United States and its allies would work to stabilise the country.
“After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction,” he said, adding that efforts would also focus on strengthening Iran’s economy.
Trump also told Reuters in an interview on Thursday that he wants to be involved in choosing the next leader of Iran, signalling Washington’s intention to influence the country’s future leadership following the escalation of the conflict.
