The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a Ramadan Relief Package aimed at easing financial pressure on low-income households across the province, following directives from Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
During its 47th meeting, the provincial cabinet endorsed a plan to provide cash assistance to 1.063 million families, with each household receiving an average of Rs 12,500 during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the KP spokesperson for Economy and Finance, this marks a 25% increase compared to Ramadan 2024, when families received Rs 10,000. The increase was approved in response to rising inflation — particularly the higher prices of sugar and wheat flour — to ensure broader relief for vulnerable citizens.
The spokesperson said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to shielding low-income families from economic pressures and helping them observe Ramadan with greater financial stability.
Meanwhile, astronomers have forecast a strong likelihood that the Ramadan crescent moon will be sighted in Pakistan on February 18, 2026. Astronomical calculations indicate the new moon will be born on February 17 at 5:01 pm, making visibility possible on the 29th of Shaban (1447 AH). The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar on February 18 to review moon sighting reports.
