The Sindh government has imposed a ban on photography inside government girls’ colleges to prevent the misuse of students’ images on social media and protect their privacy.

According to the Sindh College Education Department, a formal notification has been issued directing college principals to strictly prohibit taking photographs of students within campus premises. The move comes after authorities received multiple complaints about images being circulated online without consent.

Officials said the step is intended to safeguard the privacy, dignity, and safety of female students. The advisory was issued by the Special Secretary for Colleges, after which the Regional Director of College Education Karachi informed all government colleges through official correspondence.

Authorities highlighted that in several cases, unauthorised photos of students and female teachers were secretly captured and shared on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

College administrations have been instructed to enforce the directive without exception. Regional Director Professor Qazi Irshad warned that disciplinary action would be taken against principals or staff found violating the ban.

The decision mirrors earlier measures in Punjab, where restrictions were placed on mobile phone use in schools to reduce misuse and maintain discipline.
