Wolverhampton Wanderers ended Newcastle United’s three-match Premier League winning run with a goalless draw on Sunday, extending their own unbeaten streak to five matches, including four league games, for the first time this season.
Newcastle dominated possession and applied pressure with a series of crosses, nearly taking the lead in the 16th minute when Harvey Barnes curled a ball into the box for Nick Woltemade, but the German forward headed wide from close range.
Wolves responded with through balls behind the visitors’ defence, yet neither side managed a shot on target for nearly half an hour. Mateus Mane finally tested Newcastle’s goalkeeper with a flicked effort from close range.
Hugo Bueno went close for Wolves just before halftime, while Yerson Mosquera’s header early in the second half sailed over the bar. At the other end, Wolves keeper Jose Sa denied Joelinton’s close-range header in the 85th minute as both teams settled for a point.
Eighth-placed Newcastle will host Aston Villa next Sunday, while Wolves, who remain 14 points adrift of safety, face Manchester City the day before.
