Dense fog blanketed plain areas of Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Sunday night into Monday, severely reducing visibility and prompting the closure of several major motorways, according to a report by Dunya News.
A spokesperson for the Motorway Police confirmed that multiple sections were closed to all types of traffic as a safety precaution. These include Motorway M1 from Peshawar to Burhan, M2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chakri, M3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M4 from Shershah to Pindi Bhattian, M5 from Rohri to Shershah, and M11 from Lahore to Sambrial.
Officials stated that the closures were necessary to safeguard lives and property amid dangerous weather conditions. The Motorway Police also warned that lane violations during foggy conditions can result in serious accidents, urging drivers to strictly observe lane discipline.
Motorists have been advised to use fog lights, slow down, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Citizens planning to travel were encouraged to prefer daytime journeys, with the Motorway Police identifying 10:00am to 6:00pm as safer travel hours due to improved visibility.
The public has also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130 for guidance or assistance during fog-related disruptions. Meanwhile, monitoring teams remain deployed on key routes to manage traffic and ensure safety as weather conditions continue to change.
