Government Plans New Year Fuel Price Cuts Following Global Oil Drop.

As a New Year’s gift for the public, the government is considering a reduction in petroleum product prices starting January 1, following a sharp decline in international crude oil prices.

Officials say a plan has been prepared to significantly cut fuel prices for the next 15 days, if approved. Petrol prices could drop by up to Rs 10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel may become cheaper by around Rs 8.59 per litre.

Kerosene is expected to fall by Rs 8.92 per litre, and light diesel oil could see a reduction of Rs 6.62 per litre.

Under the proposed plan, petrol would decrease from the current Rs 263.45 to approximately Rs 252.85 per litre, and high-speed diesel would fall from Rs 265.65 to around Rs 257.06 per litre. Meanwhile, kerosene is expected to drop from Rs 180.54 to Rs 171.6 per litre.

The move is aimed at easing fuel costs for consumers and providing relief at the start of the new year.
