The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on oral land ownership and property transfer transactions. From now on, all land and property transfers must be done through officially registered documents.
According to a notification issued under the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1967, this rule applies to all property transfers except inheritance cases. Sales, mortgages, exchanges, and gifts must now be completed using registered legal documents to be considered valid.
The government has also enforced the Registration Act of 1908 and the Transfer of Property Act, 1882. Any property deal carried out without proper registration or on unstamped paper will not be recorded.
All revenue officers have been instructed to strictly implement the new policy, and the Punjab Land Record Authority has been informed. The decision has taken effect immediately to improve transparency and ensure legal protection in property transactions across Punjab.
