DRAP moves controlled drugs quota allocation to online system

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has decided to shift the allocation of raw material quotas for sedatives and painkiller medicines to an online system, ARY News reported on Tuesday, citing well-informed sources.

According to the sources, quotas for controlled drugs’ raw materials will now be allocated through a digital platform to improve transparency and efficiency in the process. DRAP has completed the development of an online Controlled Drugs Quota Allocation System following consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

Formal notifications regarding the new system have been issued to the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA), the Pakistan Bureau, pharmaceutical companies, and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).

Under the new framework, pharmaceutical companies will receive their controlled drugs raw material quotas for 2026 through the online system. Companies will be required to submit electronic applications for quota allocation.

From January 1, DRAP will no longer accept hard copy applications for controlled drugs quotas, and all requests must be submitted via the e-App system. Quota allocation certificates will also be issued online.

DRAP sources added that staff training for the new e-App–based quota allocation system has been completed, ensuring a smooth transition to the digital process.
