President Donald Trump has warned Hamas to disarm or face serious consequences and threatened to strike Iran if it tries to restart its nuclear programme.
Trump made the remarks on Monday after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. They discussed the Gaza ceasefire, Iran, and Hezbollah.
Trump said Israel has followed its part of the ceasefire, despite ongoing attacks in Gaza that have killed at least 400 people. He blamed Hamas for delays in the next phase of the truce, which includes exchanging captives, allowing more aid, and a partial Israeli withdrawal.
Hamas has not yet returned one Israeli captive, while Israel continues attacks and restricts aid. Hamas says it won’t give up weapons as long as Israel occupies Palestinian land but is open to a long-term truce.
Trump also warned that Iran may be rebuilding its nuclear programme after US strikes in June. He said the US would act quickly and strongly if Iran moves forward. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons and says its missile programme is for defense.
Experts warn that attacking Iran again could trigger a bigger regional war, and Iran has said it would respond strongly if attacked.
