Petition filed in LHC against permission for basant 2026 in Lahore.

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore allowing Basant celebrations in February 2026.

The petition was submitted by Advocate Azhar Siddique, who expressed serious concerns about public safety, particularly the dangers linked to kite flying.

He pointed out that recent incidents involving kite strings caused severe injuries to a child and a young man. The petition also recalled past cases where kite flying led to the loss of lives.

The petitioner requested the court to withdraw the DC’s notification and suspend it until a final verdict is given.

Earlier, the DC Lahore announced permission for Basant 2026, allowing kite flying on February 6, 7, and 8, with strict safety rules in place to prevent accidents.
