Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accorded a hero’s welcome to the Pakistan Under-19 cricket team and announced a generous cash reward following their emphatic victory over India in the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025.
The young Green Shirts delivered a dominant performance in the final, successfully defending a massive 348-run target by dismissing India for 156 in 26.2 overs, sealing a resounding 191-run victory to lift the continental title.
On Monday, the Prime Minister hosted a luncheon in honour of the victorious squad, where he personally congratulated the players and team management for their historic achievement.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with several federal ministers, was also present at the ceremony.
Rs 10 million reward per player
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a cash reward of Rs 10 million for each member of the squad, recognising their outstanding performance and contribution to Pakistan cricket.
Former national captain and Pakistan U19 mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed, speaking after the event, reiterated the Prime Minister’s announcement and expressed confidence in the team’s future.
“The Prime Minister has announced a reward of Rs 10 million for each player. These young cricketers will make the nation proud in the years to come,” Sarfaraz said.
Standout performances in the final
Sarfaraz also highlighted individual brilliance in the title clash, praising Ahmed Hussain for his composed 56 off 72 balls, and Sameer Minhas for his match-winning knock of 172 off 113 deliveries, which included 17 fours and nine sixes.
Behind the scenes: preparation and talent hunt
Pakistan U19 head coach Shahid Anwar shed light on the extensive preparation behind the triumph, revealing that a nationwide talent hunt began on June 17, with 70 players participating in trials.
Each player was given four matches to showcase their abilities before the final squad was shortlisted for a 10-day training camp in Karachi. Former cricketers were involved during the camp to help refine skills and build match temperament.
“Our objective before leaving the country was very clear — to win the trophy and to win the hearts of cricket fans,” Shahid Anwar said.
The emphatic Asia Cup victory has further reinforced Pakistan’s reputation as a nursery of world-class cricketing talent, offering renewed optimism for the future of the national team.
