A Saudi court has sentenced a Syrian doctor to five years in prison and ordered media publicity after he was found guilty of sexually harassing a Filipino nurse.
The incident began when a Filipino nurse working at a private hospital in Saudi Arabia filed a complaint with the hospital management against a Syrian doctor for persistent flirting and inappropriate behavior.
The hospital management escalated the issue to the Public Prosecution, leading to an extensive investigation that unveiled the extent of the doctor’s harassment towards the nurse.
The evidence against the doctor was strong, resulting in his immediate arrest and the initiation of legal proceedings.
The case eventually reached the criminal court, where the doctor was initially sentenced to one year in prison for his actions. However, the Court of Appeal decided to increase the sentence to five years.
In addition to the lengthy prison sentence, the Saudi court also issued an order for the doctor’s name to be publicly disclosed, adding a significant public element to his punishment.
