The Sindh High Court’s Constitutional Bench was informed on Monday that all milk samples collected from Karachi were found unfit and hazardous for human consumption, according to a laboratory report submitted by the inspection team.
Lab Report Declares All Samples Substandard
During the hearing of a petition challenging the recent increase in milk prices, the court reviewed a detailed quality report submitted by the inspection team.
As instructed earlier, milk samples collected from multiple locations across Karachi were tested by the Sindh Standard and Quality Control Authority (SSQCA).
The findings were alarming:
- Every sample was declared substandard
- None met the criteria for safe human consumption
- All samples were found hazardous to health
The constitutional bench ordered the laboratory report to be added to the official court record.
Milk Price Notification Presented in Court
Karachi Commissioner also submitted the official price notification issued on November 27 following a stakeholders’ meeting. As per the notification:
- Dairy farms will sell milk at Rs. 200 per litre
- Retailers will sell it at Rs. 220 per litre
Background of Price Dispute
On October 7, 2025, the Sindh government rejected the Dairy Farmers Association’s demand to increase the retail milk price to Rs. 300 per litre.
During an appearance on ARY News’ Bakhabar Savera, Sindh Government Adviser Sadia Javed stated that the administration would not succumb to pressure from dairy farmers.
She noted:
- Milk prices in many parts of Pakistan were already above Rs. 200 per litre
- The provincial government wanted to maintain the current rate
- Any unilateral hike by dairy producers would face government action
