WhatsApp has rolled out an enhanced “About” feature for iOS, introducing temporary status messages that automatically disappear after a selected period. The update is included in version 25.35.72, now available on the App Store.
Temporary ‘About’ Messages Arrive
The refreshed “About” section lets users set short, time-sensitive updates—similar to disappearing statuses—directly visible on their profile and within chats. These temporary messages, which can include text or emojis, automatically vanish after a chosen duration, keeping profiles clean and up to date.
WhatsApp says the feature is rolling out gradually, meaning not all users will see it immediately despite updating to the latest version. The phased rollout is also mentioned in the App Store changelog.
How the Feature Works
A small bubble with the user’s “About” message now appears below the profile picture in chats and in the chat info screen. This allows contacts to quickly understand someone’s availability or current activity without opening their full profile.
Examples:
- A colleague sets “In a meeting – 2 hours.”
- A friend uses “Traveling today .”
- A student selects “Studying – until tonight.”
Users can choose from multiple visibility durations, including:
- A few hours
- One day
- One week
- One month
WhatsApp also displays how much time is left before the message expires.
Why It Matters
The previous static “About” section often went untouched, resulting in outdated or irrelevant information. The new disappearing “About” update ensures:
- More accurate status info
- Better communication
- Fewer misunderstandings in chats
- Cleaner, auto-updating profiles
Emoji support further enhances clarity with quick visual cues, like a suitcase for travel or a laptop for work.
Rollout Underway
The feature will continue rolling out to more iOS users over the coming weeks. Keeping WhatsApp updated ensures access as soon as the feature becomes available on your device.
